Ram volleyball team plays big schools in Ballard tourney

The Greene County varsity volleyball team played in the Ballard tournament Saturday and finished third in pool play. 

The Rams started the day playing Class 5A Johnston and lost 5-21, 14-21. They next played 2A Woodward-Granger, a team coach Donna Carhill described as “scrappy,” and lost 16-21, 14-21. The Rams won in their third match, topping Class 4A Ballard 21-17, 22-20.

In the consolation bracket the Rams beat Class 4A Knoxville 21-11, 21-11, but fell to Class 1A Grandview Baptist 25-27, 25-23, 9-15.

Katelyn Hagen served 15 of 15 and Hannah Stein served 27 of 30 with three aces. Hannah Promes had 76 assists on the day. Nadia Fisher had 41 kills and Megan Durbin had 17. Alison Gallagher had 20 digs and Kenna Marquardt had 16.

“We have started to gel as a team, winning decisively over Knoxville and taking Grandview Baptist to three games, a team that we lost to last weekend in two games, Carhill noted.
